Deziana Torres is a 30 year old Social Worker, creative author, artist, community advocate, poet, podcast host and motivational speaker. Raised in deep East Oakland, CA, her experiences empowered her to seek ways to attend to the cries of her hood. Understanding trauma and the function impairments it can hold on individuals, is what inspired her to release this creative piece and to give speeches across all levels of education. Her hope is to inspire others to become lights in the midst of their adversities by acknowledging and validating the oppression faced in marginalized communities.
Deziana Torres’ role as a community advocate stems from her involvement in the following organizations: Youth Empowerment Program (UC Davis), Hood Liberation and Healer’s Coalition. All organizations aim to fight against recidivism rates, oppression, gentrification, poverty, abuse of power, and more.
She has been a motivational speaker working alongside youth in education systems and in juvenile facilities for about 10 years now and finds that teens and young adults admire her authenticity, vulnerability, and positive views for life. To all she speaks life into, she also empowers and sparks fire in their dreams and life goals. Above all, she is caring, compassionate, inclusive, and honest.
